Today, more than ever, Debbie Friedman singing Mi Shebeirach (the prayer for healing) brings me comfort.
*pretends to be shocked*
This version of the post erases the jewish voice actors. Some of them are in this image and simply shown as white.
These reblogs show it:
And like wwp said in the tags – it’s erasing us from our own stories.
Reblogging for the addition!!
Still more signs.
I feel like the reason there aren’t any ‘Jewish hero fights the Fair Folk’ stories is because we’d easily get out of that situation.
Like, put Hershel of Ostropol in any situation involving the Fair Folk and bro would talk his way out.
This is why I’m not really scared of paranormal beasties. But yes, I’d enjoy reading this happen.
Names have power? Give them your secular name and not your Hebrew one.
If you eat their food you’re trapped? It’s not kosher anyways.
They speak in riddles? What, and you didn’t grow up answering a question with a question?
Confuse the Fair Folk with impossible halachic questions: if a man falls off a roof and onto a woman and as a result she becomes pregnant, is he obligated to marry her and is the child a mamzer? If meat is grown in a laboratory from a mix of various animal cells is it kosher, and is it even meat, and what bracha would you even say on it? Is a unicorn permitted to cleanse a poisoned stream on Shabbat using the innate purifying powers of its horn or does it count as work? Can it be justified as pikuach nefesh? Can necromancy be justified as pikuach nefesh, if one approaches necromancy with the understanding that it is just delayed medical assistance?
And if all else fails, you can always get out a fleischig pan, kick ass and take names, and don’t forget to say the blessing for fucking someone’s day up:
BARUCH ATA ADO-NOT TODAY ASSHOLE
That ending line just killed me so hard omg 😂😂😂😂
lynda carter really wore a magen david and a crown that says never forget like the legend jumped out
My grandparents left their home country as children when they heard the whispering of antisemitism starting in their home town. They got out and fled to America so I and future generations could be safe from persecution and mass murder. Only 2 generations ago.
And now America is becoming that country that they probably would have fled.
If you are not resisting, you are part of the problem.
And yes, I want non-Jews to reblog
Except I’m sorry but it’s not is it? A couple thousand white dudes babbling about jew conspiracies is not equal to Hitler and the holocaust no matter what. A couple thousand vs a few million? Your country isn’t fucking dumb. They FOUGHT to SAVE your kind and lost tens of thousands of men in the process. How about, fucking stop making it sound like the majority is Nazi and actually do some research. Jesus fucking christ.
Funny, since the Russians freed more prison camps than the US, including Auschwitz. The US didn’t care about the camps, they cared about fighting the ally of their declared enemy, Japan. And the US almost sided with the Nazis and had a large Nazi party in our boarders all the way up until (and even a little after) we entered the war.
Also do you know how large the Nazi party was at it’s peak? Just 7% of the German population. Smaller numbers don’t mean shit when they have people that aid and abet them by saying shit like “oh don’t worry they are too few to do harm.”
“My kind” have centuries of actual oppression running through our history, we can sense when something has changed and when it’s coming (back, again), it’s in our blood. Our grandparents and great-grandparents always told us to always have a bag packed, because they were afraid this would happen. “My kind” always know they will come for us again.
Hell, this isn’t some “oversensitive Tumblrina sjw” thing, here’s an actual Auschwitz survivor: “I see men, hatred on their faces, with torches in parades and screaming, just like the Nazis did to us years ago. I see torture and violence and swastikas and I was brought back to the worst moments of my life. I couldn’t believe they were speaking English, that this was in Charlottesville. I thought this nightmare was in the past, way in the past.“
Offense but why does literally every dude that says stuff like “oh they’re not actually Real Nazis” “oh so you call everyone you disagree w/ a Nazi” like why are you all so hilariously uneducated and unable to see things as they are? Literally none of them have ever known what they’re even fucking talking about lmao
Most comments that call Trump Hitler are referring to 1933 Hitler, when he first ran for office and later seized power, who drew an enormous euphoric fan following based on hating a particular religious group and a political slogan that roughly translates to Make Germany Great Again. His solution to Jewish people started with encouraging them to emigrate, identification tags, then moving them to the Jewish Ghettos “to be monitored” and eventually to more secure concentration camps. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE was mentioned by Trump or his closest allies as a solution for the “problem” of Muslims in America during his campaign. It took Hitler until January 1940 to authorize the Final Solution, which started the death camps as an official government policy. How much do you think Trump could do to Muslims in about 7 years if given the chance, all before any organized killings begin.
Similarly, the Nazi Party in the early 1930’s was just thought of as a joke, a few angry people due to the bad economy (to the level which would make the Great Recession we just experienced look like a cloudy day) and the need to place the blame for that on a particular group of people. The Nazis gradually grew their support base until they had about 30% support while those in the middle were divided, actually giving them 50% support and allowing them to do whatever they wanted. Germany rapidly went from probably the most liberal place in the world in the 1920’s to becoming the most hateful and murderous place a decade later.
When non-Jewish people try to speak over Jewish people I throw up in my mouth a little and hope they get mono
Also, sorry (but actually not at all) to add to the pile on, but until you’ve experienced antisemitism, until you’ve stood there hearing people scream “kill the Jews” one state away from your hometown, until you’ve spent even an ounce of time looking into the many ways in which Jewish people are threatened in the West, sit down and shut up.
And while you’re sitting, take a moment to think over the ways we’re afraid of you. Think of how terrifying it is for us when people brush off the term Nazi and call it overused. Think of how we all grew up knowing that we have always been hated by some, that we will always be hated. Think about how those few Nazis destroyed our culture, so much so that the global Jewish population may never recover. Think about how they murdered us for no reason, and then, for one instant, one single second, try to understand why we are terrified.

“Twice the power of love” is my new favorite description of bisexuality
Anyway I’m crying because that’s the best and most genuine description of how it feels to be bi that I’ve ever heard.

This list doesn’t include all the memoirs, all the fiction short story collections. They’re mostly books I’ve read— some of them, like “Like Bread on a Seder Plate” and “Queer Jews” I grew up with, others, like “Torah Queeries” and “Keep Your Wives Away From Them” I read on my own time. They range from Orthodox to Reconstructionist to Reform, and encompass a variety of ways of tangling with Jewish tradition.
If you are curious about LGBTQ people in the Jewish tradition, I urge you read at least one if not more of these.
This is a poem for the nice Jewish girl
You are taught three things that you cannot even remember learning you have known them so long
1)your nose is ugly
2)you should be on your best behavior at family parties as you represent your family
3)there was a war to kill everyone like you a long time before you were born
These things inform everything you do for example
1)if someone tells you you don’t look Jewish you must take it as a compliment
2)you are naturally shyer and more socially conscious
3)you have constant nightmares of that war for the rest of your life
The nice Jewish girl goes to Hebrew school at age five or six and learns her aleph bet
The nice Jewish girl is happy to tell her friends what Hanukkah is and why we don’t have school so much in September and how to pronounce “challah”
The nice Jewish girl lights the shabbos candles every friday night and says words in a language she barely understands
The nice Jewish girl is pretty, pretty in a way that her grandma pinches her cheeks and calls her a “shayna maidel”
The nice Jewish girl is not sexy and she is meant to laugh and privately call the girls who wear too much eyeliner to the bat mitzvahs “sluts”
The nice Jewish girl feels stuck between the secular world and the religious world but she doesn’t ever say that
The nice Jewish girl hates going to Hebrew School though she’d never make a fuss but moans about it to her goyische friends at school
The nice Jewish girl smiles politely when asked her opinion on Israel and changes the subject
The nice Jewish girl has pennies dropped around her in all of seventh grade by some kid claiming to be her friend and all she does is stand there with her mouth gaping open when he reveals this was his “Jew test”
The nice Jewish girl picks up none of the pennies and passes his test as triumphantly as possible
The nice Jewish girl doesn’t tell anyone that they’re always yelling at home and she never feels good enough and the walls are too small in her tiny brooklyn house and she just wants them all to stop
The nice Jewish girl always has her curly hair and her big nose even when it’s inconvenient because no amount of hair straighteners and brushing and makeup can make them go away
The nice Jewish girl sits in the corner, flicking through her iphone, as the music’s too loud and the lights too bright for her to enjoy the bar or bat mitzvah she’s been dragged to
The nice Jewish girl feels like she knows no one and nobody knows her
The nice Jewish stiffens when a holocaust joke is made but says nothing
She goes into the bathroom later to cry and feels like she may throw up
The nice Jewish girl does not throw up
When a friend makes a comment about how the Jews ruined Germany’s economy and that’s why Hitler came after them and the nice Jewish girl wants to SCREAM
She straightens her spine and lifts her chin and politely corrects her with the grace of Esther or Ruth
The nice Jewish girl’s friend does not understand and contradicts her and she wants to tear her own skin off and feels her forehead heating up and pins pricking her
The nice Jewish girl is every untold story in a mass grave from France to Italy to Germany and Poland
The nice Jewish girl isn’t special, she isn’t a phoenix waiting to rise from the ashes, she will not transform into someone cool or beautiful
The nice Jewish girl will always be awkward and shy and mediocre
The nice Jewish girl will simply have to live with herself
The nice Jewish girl lives and dies a normal life making charoset and speaking out only at meetings at the local Jewish Center and works some nice liberal arts job
The nice Jewish girl will marry a nice Jewish boy and hug her children tight with fear
The nice Jewish girl will shake every time she turns on the news and hears they are chanting “gas the Jews” in France
The nice Jewish girl will pass this pain onto her daughter and the nice Jewish girl’s daughter will be just like her
The nice Jewish girl will hate herself and hate her own hate
The nice Jewish girl is me
The nice Jewish girl is you
The nice Jewish girl never existed in the first place
