Summary: A town is being swallowed up by a mysterious forest and everyone who
ventures deep inside it is never seen again. It’s just the sort of quest
that Thor and Loki venture across the galaxy to find. They vanquish
evil, and are lauded as heroes, as the sons of Odin should be. This
time, however, things are not as easy as they first appear.

I’m super excited to post my @thorkibigbang fic! It was an adventure to write (very appropriate, given that it’s an adventure fic).

Thank you so much to the mods for putting together such a great event!

Now, the term “criminally small” gets thrown around a lot on this blog. But I ask you… are you ready to behold true tininess?

This baby Mozambique rain frog [Breviceps mossambicus] was found and phtoographed near the Vis-Agier resort in Sodwana Bay, South Africa. These frogs require no water source to reproduce, instead laying eggs underground which then hatch by direct development into tiny frogs like the one you see above. These frogs inhabit a wide range of central and southern Africa, and are most commonly found after brief periods of rain. Images by Vis-Agie Resort on Facebook.

oh my god that’s so illegal

they can’t be arrested for their tininess crimes

there are no cuffs that bitty

is there some sort of term for when you feel like you can handle major problems pretty well, but more minor inconveniences somehow make you feel legitimately suicidal? like i /know/ they’re insignificant things, but somehow they feel a million times more frustrating and at a certain point i just get tired of dealing with them.

I don’t know if there’s a term for this beyond “the straws that break the camel’s back.” (And about a hundred other similar colloquialisms.) Of course, there are about a million ways to say this because it’s such a relatable feeling.

Often times, when we’re really in a challenging place, we have the ability to slow down and deal with major life problems because we force ourselves to do so. We force ourselves to block out the noise of whatever is troubling us for a few moments, so we can handle the flood or the tornado or the person trying to stab us. We don’t do that when we’ve just broken a plate, so that broken plate hits us right where we’re vulnerable. It finds the chinks in our armor and stabs right through them.

I think when we’re feeling like this, it’s an indication that we’re in a state of really being overwhelmed, and we need to take a step back and take some time for ourselves. It’s a moment to do some self care (not the daily sort, the “pamper yourself” sort), to give yourself a few days off your obligations (hire someone to fill in for you if you have to, you need a break). It’s a moment to just heal, because clearly things are out of wack.
